Conservatives Mustn’t Lose 2012
If we assume as we must that any one of ours will beat Obama come election day, then we can’t lose.
I confess that I am truly in the Gingrich camp. Naturally, this can change, depending on future events.
What I take heart from though, is that unlike the last few elections, this time around 3 out of 4 of the candidates are speaking MY language, and the 4th isn’t going anywhere.
Human nature being what it is, we all have our favorite, but if our man loses, we still have two other GREAT choices in our back pockets. I can’t recall an election period like this in my lifetime.
Most point back to the Reagan era being the model for the future, but truth be told, Reagan was an unknown quantity before he took office. We had great hopes, but in the end, it was hopes. Thank God our hopes panned out.
With the gift of hindsight and Reagan’s example, we have a ton of metrics with which to measure our 2012 guys, and all of them have records. It’s like a searchlight compared to a candle. We were a LOT dumber back then. Or maybe a lot more innocent.
Today, the choices are much more stark. It’s the battle of brains vs. ignorance. Brains ought to win, but as we have seen, ignorance is a pretty powerful force. Ex: Government by recall in Wisconsin.
Case in point:
The evening of Newt’s South Carolina win, I was struck that during his victory speech the audience spontaneously broke out in a chant. Yes, conservatives also chant. They yelled at the top of their lungs, “USA USA USA USA.”
Contrast this with an Obama rally. Reverently, the audience will chant, “O-Bah-Ma O-Bah-Ma O-Bah-Ma O-Bah-Ma.”
It is the cult of country first vs. the cult of the man first. Conservatives worship the country. Liberals worship the man.
We know where the worship of the man leads.
It’s damn funny that the dictionary definition of conservatism states that we want to maintain the status quo, while progressives want to move things on along into the future.
The truth is that liberalism seeks to take us back to a political system of dictators, kings, czars, and pharaohs. The deification of the man.
If I fault our conservative candidates for one thing above all, it is telling us that to vote Obama is to vote for a European style socialist system. That’s being much too generous.
Allowing Obama another term will announce to the world a new nation… The Banana Republic of America. Even worse, at least the old Banana Republics have bananas. Here in the good old USA, we have none.
