Of Human Weakness and Politicians

Have you ever answered the phone only to discover someone on the other end had called the wrong number. We all have.
Then, the wrong caller, needful, sweet, full of innocence, elicits information from you. Perhaps they are trying to get in touch with a relative, or they ask you to look in the phone book for a local number. You helpfully oblige, and when they get what they want, they hang up in your face without so much as a thank you or goodbye. Ever happened to you? Did you learn a lesson?
My point, good hearted ladies and gentlemen, is that there are, among us, folks like this. On one end of the spectrum, these people are simply rude and ignorant. On the other, they are accomplished con artists. They depend and prey on good hearted folks like you and me.
If you aren’t good hearted, you may stop reading here. If you consider yourself as good and helpful, please continue.
A great politician, by his very nature, is accomplished at identifying human weakness, and identifying the easy paths.
Whereas most of us are in the game only reluctantly, and for only as long as necessary, the great politician is in it for life. Where we make alliances, many times for life, he makes them for only as long as they serve his ambitions. Friends and victims are fleeting. The herd is vast, and the pickings easy for the great politician.
My prayer for us all is that in the righteous heat of our battle for sanity, let us not unwisely choose wolfish political champions…. Friends today, enemies tomorrow.
The last time this happened en masse was during the Republican Sweep in 1994. We made some good choices…and many bad ones that we’re still paying for today.
The lesson of the needful telephone caller can take as little as a couple of minutes. Trusting a deceitful politician, and hiring him, can take years to undo.
Do not let your heart overwhelm your brain. And do not think you will be the one that is different. If you have any doubts about your political pick…DO NOT work or vote for him.
I use the word “him” for convenience. An example of a “her” is Nancy Pelosi. How would you like to find yourself on a blind date at the drive-in with her? Pass the popcorn…
