Something We Forgot

The Little Christmas Tree…

There are things we can’t do much about right now. Seems like the world is upside down with the progressive libs on top of the pile, pounding us with a stick. Well, keep pounding, I say. The day cometh when that pile of conservative energy will reach critical mass…
More tis the pity, for there really is nothing new under the sun. It’s all been tried before and before, with the same results. We all have short memories, but none are shorter than the brainless libs. Ah, but we grow weary of snarfing at the brain dead Obama-ites. In a way, it seems almost…unmanly. Not sportsmanlike. Cruel. They can’t help what they are any more than the termite who likes the occasional wood sandwich…

Which brings us to… The Little Christmas Tree… from Christmas 1951, a time when Stalin still strode the halls and Nancy Pelosi was just finishing college. The Korean War was in full blossom.

I know you all have heard the Regan clips on Hannity, but how many have heard Red Skelton on the radio? For that matter, how many have heard of Red Skelton? If you are of an age to remember him on TV, nothing more needs to be said. If not, well, your history is deficient.
I’m sort of a Christmas nut. I own something over 2000 Old Time Radio shows…and of those, I have two CD’s chock loaded with the best Christmas shows spanning the early 30′s through the late 50′s. Something like 400 shows? Each year I can hardly wait to start listening to my Christmas stash, so I fire them up the day after Halloween. It takes that long for me to wade through them all.
I listen to them in my car and while I work up here in the Workshop. I listen to them when it’s warm, and also when I have a nice wood fire in my old pot belly. Today it’s grey outside, and the potbelly is cheerily warm, and coming from my computer speakers is the 1951 Red Skelton Christmas show entitled The Little Christmas tree. He always had themes, you see.
Nowadays, when we think we know so much, and are suspicious of just about everything, it’s refreshing to occasionally return to a time when folks were just plain ignorant. They were also poor…compared to us. Everyone was poor, so no one knew it. They were also trusting. And..everything good was ahead of them, and they had a sense of it, which made them something we are not…happy…at least to view them through the looking glass of old time radio.

Actually, the people of that time were much like us today..only less so, I think. Libraries of books have been written on those days. More is the pity if you haven’t taken time to do your own researches and depend on somebody else’s two sentence description of how it used to was. Shades of the Almighty if you only look to the feminist point of view! According to them, the women back then all wore burkas and were very downtrodden. Excuse me while I let loose…. HAW HAW HAW HAW! (choke choke, cough, spit) HAW HAW HAW! Jeez, gimme a break!

Say, let’s just cut to the chase. I have the link to the show I’m listening to now. It’s on one of my websites. I make pages, you know. That’s what I do. Would you like to listen to the Red Skelton show and The Little Christmas Tree? Click here.
And, if you’d like to listen to more Christmas Old Time Radio, here’s one of my pages.
And, here is my Christmas Song collection that I can pretty well promise you never heard before. They are available through the end of December. I hope you have the time to listen and enjoy! I’m sorry I didn’t think to put them here earlier. If you are at work and are able, you’ll be cheered by the music, and if you are at home and out of work, you’ll be cheered by the music. The Golden Age of Radio really was the most Christmasy time in our nation’s history. We could do well to learn a thing or two from what we forgot.
