Media is Tree of Evil
Bernard Goldberg, one of your favorite former big time news reporters and current news commenter made the observation that you can’t properly blame the big 3 electronic media anchors and their associated reporters totally for the shape of the news these days. I cheered.
Bernie knows, and so do I, and now you, that the real force behind the news is the news producers. Where our modern news media is the tree of evil, the producers are the very root. These are the people who pull the strings of the talking heads you see delivering the nightly stupid news, and these are the folks who have done the most to bring the country to where it is now.
In the TV biz, there is the owner followed by the big boss followed by the sales boss, news boss, and engineering boss. The big boss plays golf. The news boss keeps the news train generally on the track and mostly keeps out of the way. (The other bosses aren’t important here.)
Under the news boss comes the producers who most often are a power unto themselves. They are the smart ones who are most likely women, divorced, no prospects, and married to the station. The field reporters are gatherer ants, going about their business to the exclusion of all else, doing as they are told by the producer. The news readers are pitiable plastic mouthpieces who read what they are told to read. If they are told to slobber a little more or less, they do it. If
they are told to report right as being left, no problem. Like post late unpleasantness reporter, Sim Carstairs, they must be able to sing Dixie or The Battle Hymn of the Republic with equal enthusiasm. Weeknight anchors are very serious, whereas overnight and weekend anchors are much less so, many times being their own producers using materials gathered from the real producers. Often times the second stringers are even more virulent in their on air views, since the big bosses are usually busy sleeping off their steak and alcohol.
Now, if anyone in the TV biz happens to ever see this, they’ll have a damn hard time finding fault with it, because if this isn’t precisely them, it’s damn damn close, or right on the money for others they know in the news biz.
The point is, that these days producers are rabidly radically, off worldly, strangely, mind bogglingly, putridescently right is left left is right pro same sex marriage pro abortion anti male hate the country liberal and ever worshipful of their very own god Obama busy. The reporters reflect this view.
A large segment of the country still thinks the reporters must know something they don’t and keep listening and believing, past all human understanding. Worse, others outside the USA who are even less sophisticated, if that is possible believe everything they read and hear from our Obama propagandist media.
Media IS the 4th estate, and in many ways more powerful than the other three…with none of the checks and balances. And it has always been this way. The only difference is that today, we have other means of learning the news. Thank God!!!
Oh, and let us not forget our friends in the print media. For the most part they work the phones only. Often, the electronic media only works the printed pages. All those old black and white movies about the newspaper reporters out hoofing it, wearing out shoe leather, is just what it is…old black and white movies. These days there isn’t so much of that.
Our radio commenters like Rush still haven’t quite caught on. While they rightly rail against the traditional news media, then they feign unbelief when the traditional media doesn’t expend that shoe leather to research and learn the truth.
The fact is that Rush, Hannity, and Beck must be the ones to do the research. There is simply no one else to do it. The black and white days are dead, dead, dead, if they ever existed at all.
Which leads to the final thought. All good writers possess the ability to write on demand, but all good writers only do good work when their muse is in full force. Having to produce words on a deadline or on days when you don’t feel like it leads to dull text. Worse, writing when you are a newsman who would rather be trying on women’s clothes leads to crap text. But, since you are a respected newsman, your crap text is taken as the real thing, having real worth. Much of what you read in the papers and see on TV is crap text and should be flushed before ever being seen…but it isn’t. It is our loss, and the gain of the viewers and readers who swill their daily koolaid. It’s just the guys in power now.
